Officially the reason was to improve support by gathering full system specs with support requests in a lengthy website form. Of course this way the user gets no feedback, or even an acknowledgement. Wilco promised support answers would be posted in the locked forum, but none have appeared since it was locked. In reality, I think they got fed up with all the criticism they were getting. The Airbus was supposed to be a PIC title, promising in depth simulation. However nobody told Feelthere. They were developing a more lightweight sim (i.e the Modern Airliners series). While it was very good in places, some of the systems simulation was very skimpy. Worse, the FMGS flight plan was badly bugged. A forum is the best way to support this kind of product. It's comforting to know you aren't the only one suffering a particular bug. Sometimes a problem is caused by user error (RTFM) and other users can put them right.

Impolite users can easily be banned. Users helped users and the developers participated directly.
