Installshield Professional 6.3

Installshield Professional 6.3 Rating: 9,5/10 17reviews

Hello all, we're having a major problem with our installs of ProClarity Desktop 6.3 here at the VA Northern Cal. Hello Jeff, Thanks for posting your inquiry. I've had a bit of experience installing ProClarity within locked down environments.

The end result is to find which program is disallowing the installation and loosen its restrictions. You stated that even after uninstalling BlackIce that the ProClarity installation still fails. This is not uncommon. Once BlackIce is installed and applied on a machine, for some reason those restrictions seem to remain in affect even after you uninstall the software. What you mighy try is checking the notification log for intrustions. I believe it thinks that the ProClarity installer is an intruder. This may lead you in the right direction in terms of finding which files / apps to allow in the 'safe' list. HTH Amanda Ruffner.

Installshield Pro 6.3 I have a customer that is reporting that when they use our installation it is not closing the application properly at the end of the install. In short, installshield hangs, they then have to close via task manager and they then have subsequent problems with the install and uninstalling.

OK, I believe we got a workable solution! Rather than hassle with the HIPS team and hope we could find out what was blocking it, we went ahead and re-packaged the ProClarity install using Symantec Ghost AI Builder. We built a 60MB package that so far seems to install ProClarity fine on a PC with the latest version of HIPS on it.

I can’t guarantee it can be pushed out or SMS though, but we only install it on a handful of PCs here so a manual install works fine for us. We did decide to not package the XML 6 or SQL Pivot Tables pre-requisites so those will have to be installed manually before the main installation (if they aren’t already installed). Jeff tried it out at his site and said it worked great. Any VA IT staff member that needs this repackaged installer, please email me at or call me at 785-350-1812. Hi Jeff, Sorry to hear that you're experiencing difficulties installing the Desktop. The first thing that came to mind is to try running FileMon during the install to see if access to some portion of the file system is being denied to the installer during the installation. Also, if you compare environmental variables of the reimaged workstation (where the installation is successful) to the workstation where the installation fails, are they identical?

Hopefully FileMon will turn something up for you. Hello Jeff, Thanks for posting your inquiry.

Bob and Amanda, I want to thank you both for your input, I'm working with my enterprise team now to try and 'isolate' what is blocking this (as Amanda points out BlackIce/Proventia causes many residuals). Bob do you have a basic primer for using filemon in this situation (what to look for). I mean I've used before, and in school for mcp/mcse just not 'for' any thing specific.sigh I've done pcket sniffing and net capture's stuff like that so just a point in the general area and I'm a good bloodhound after that We also have ERD 2005.pstools knowledge and availability.

No problem Jeff! I am no pro with FileMon either, but it has come in handy a couple of times in some pretty obscure situations. What I would do is start FileMon, then exclude most of the processes being monitored so that you will get a clear picture of what the ProClarity install is doing after you start it. What you're looking for are status messages of Access Denied, which would be indicative of the install trying to perform an operation that the OS is not configured to let it do. Could be something local, but more likely in your group policy, or like Amanda suggested, some residue from Black Ice. I'm getting this same error.
